4-Bromo-2-methylaniline (2.83 grams, 0.02 mole) and ethyl 2-(chlorocarbonyl)-2-methoxypropionate (4.12 grams, 0.02 mole), prepared in Part C, were reacted in the presence of triethylamine (1.54 grams, (0.02 mole) in 200 milliliters of methylene chloride in a manner similar to that described in Example I to give 1.73 grams (0.005 mole) of ethyl 3-[(4-bromo-2-methyl-phenyl)amino]-2-methoxy-2-methyl-3-oxopropanoate having a melting point of 99° C.-103° C.
