Procedure

Mono-ethyl ethylmalonate (5.0 grams, 0.03 mole), 3,5-dichloroaniline (5.06 grams, 0.03 mole) and 1,3-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (6.44 grams, 0.03 mole) were reacted in a manner similar to that described in Example LVII to give 0.87 gram (0.003 mole) of ethyl 2-(3,5-dichlorophenylaminocarbonyl)butanoate having a melting point of 96.5° C.-98° C.
