Procedure

42 g of the 1-acetoxymethyl-1-bromomethylcyclohexane resulting from the preceding stage and dissolved in 80 cm3 of ethanol were heated under reflux for 6 hours, in the presence of 3 cm3 of 48% hydrobromic acid. The ethanol was evaporated off and the oil obtained was distilled. 1-Bromomethyl-1-hydroxymethyl-cyclohexane was obtained.
