4-(6-Methoxy-1-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-quinolin-4-ylamino)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (445 mg, 1.2 mmol) was dissolved in HBr/Acetic acid (30% by weight HBr in Acetic Acid) and heated at 90° C. for 1 hr. The solvent was then evaporated to afford an orange solid (˜500 mg, 100%) which was carried onto the next step without any characterization.
