4-(3-Bromopropyl)benzonitrile (20 g, 0.089 mol) in acetonitrile was added to a vigorously stirred mixture of ethanolamine (27.2 g, 0.447 mol) and potassium carbonate (18.5 g, 0.133 mol) in 300 mL of dry acetonitrile. Stirring was then continued at room temperature overnight under a nitrogen atmosphere. The reaction mixture was filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude product thereby obtained was purified by column chromatography (using methanol in chloroform) to yield 15 g of the sub-title compound.
