A solution of 2′-allyloxy-2,4-dichloro-6′-fluorobiphenyl (1.7 g, 5.7 mmol) in mesitylene (50 mL) was refluxed for 48 h. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure. Purification by ISCO using a solvent gradient of 0 to 20% ethyl acetate in hexanes provided 1.1 g (65%) of 3-allyl-2′,4′-dichloro-6-fluorobiphenyl-2-ol as a pale yellow oil.
