A solution of 2-allyloxy-5-fluoro-2′-phenylbiphenyl (6.4 g, 21.0 mmol) in mesitylene (200 mL) was refluxed for 72 h. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure. Purification by ISCO using a solvent gradient of 0 to 20% ethyl acetate in hexanes afforded 6.2 g (96%) of 3-allyl-5-fluoro-2′-phenylbiphenyl-2-ol as a pale yellow oil.
