Reaction Steps

A mixture of 0.12 g (1.7 mmol) of 3-amino-6-benzyloxy-7-methoxynaphthalene-2-carbonitrile and 0.5 mL of N,N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal in 2.0 mL of toluene is heated under reflux for 4 hours. The solvent is evaporated and the residue is dried on high vacuum to yield N′-(7-benzyloxy-3-cyano-6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl)-N,N-dimethylformamidine as an off-white solid.
