1.32 mol (166 cm3) of benzenesulfochloride is added little by little at 45° C. with constant stirring to a solution of 1 mol (223 g) of 2-amino anthraquinone in 1800 cm3 of pyridine. When the addition is complete the reaction mixture is kept at 45° C. for 4 hours. It is then cooled to 0° C. Drying yields the crude product which is then washed successively in slightly hydrochloric water, in water, and in alcohol. 320 g of practically pure benzene-sulfonamide are thus obtained, which melt at 276° C. 12 g of slightly less pure benzene-sulfonamide may be recovered from the pyridine filtrate by dilution.
