Procedure
A mixture of the product from Step D (10.76 g.) and 3N HCl (150 ml.) is stirred at room temperature for approximately 24 hours. The dark brown solution is made alkaline by the addition of 20% NaOH solution and extracted with methylene chloride. The extracts are washed with H2O, saturated NaCl solution and dried (Na2SO4). Removal of the solvent in vacuo followed by trituration with petroleum ether (30°-60°) provides 6.2 g., m.p. 98°-110° C.
