Procedure
From 2.0 g (0.007 mol) of 4-oxo-2-propyl-4H-pyrido[1,2-a]thieno[2,3d]pyrimidine-7-carboxamide (Example 23), 30 ml of phosphorus oxychloride and 30 ml of chloroform, following the procedure of Example 27, there is obtained 1.8 g of 4-oxo-2-propyl-4H-pyrido[1,2-a]thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-7-carbonitrile; mp 217°-218° C. after recrystallization from glacial acetic acid.
