A mixture of the product of Step A, 10 ml of acetone and 3.5 ml of 2 N hydrochloric acid was stirred at room temperature for 50 minutes and the acetone was evaporated. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate and the organic phase was washed with water, dried and evaporated to dryness. The residue was triturated with ether and was vacuum filtered to obtain 1.95 g of the syn isomer of 3-azidomethyl-7-[2-(2-tritylamino-4-thiazolyl)-2-hydroxyimino-acetamido]-ceph-3-eme-4-carboxylic acid.
