Reaction Steps
24 g (0.08 mole) of the ester obtained in step (b) are dissolved in 250 ml of methanol and 50 ml of sodium hydroxide at 400 g/l. After the reaction mixture is heated for 2 hours under reflux, it is left to cool then acidified with 5 N hydrochloric acid. The expected product is left to precipitate and, after filtration, is washed with water then with ethanol and finally with isopropyl ether. 13.6 g of the desired product are obtained. m.p.=203° C.
