A solution of 1,1-dimethylethyl {(1S)-1-[4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)phenyl]ethyl}carbamate (2 g, 6.3 mmol) and 4N hydrogen chloride in dioxane (5 mL) in methanol (5 mL) was refluxed for 2 min. After cooling to room temperature the mixture was concentrated and rotary evaporated from benzene, and further dried in vacuo to afford 1.7 g, 5.9 mmol (95%) of (S)-1-[4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)phenyl]ethylamine dihydrochloride. MS (EI) for C13H21N3: 220 (MH+).
