Procedure
A solution of 1,1-dimethylethyl [(1S)-1-(4-{[2-(diethylamino)ethyl]oxy}phenyl)ethyl]carbamate (0.912 g, 2.7 mmol) in 4N hydrogen chloride in dioxane (5 mL) and methanol (5 mL) was refluxed for 2 min. After cooling to room temperature the mixture was concentrated to afford (S)-2-[4-(1-aminoethyl)phenoxy]-N,N-diethylethylamine as the hydrochloride salt (0.830 g, 99% yield). MS (EI) for C14H24N2O: 237 (MH+).
