To a solution of tert-butyl 4-{[6-bromo-1-oxo-2-(phenylsulfonyl)-1,2-dihydroisoquinolin-4-yl]methyl}piperazine-1-carboxylate (Example 27a, 1.35 g) in THF (10 mL) was added sodium hydroxide (0.29 g) in water (5 mL). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The reaction was then heated to 50° C. for 2 h. The volatiles were removed under reduced pressure, and the residue partitioned between ethyl acetate (100 mL) and water (100 mL). The aqueous was extracted further with ethyl acetate (2×100 mL), and the combined organics dried (MgSO4), filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was triturated with ethyl acetate to afford the subtitle compound as a white solid (0.29 g).
