Procedure

[4-(3-Cyano-1-ethyl-6-methoxy-1H-indol-2-yl)-phenoxy]-acetic acid tert-butyl ester (745 mg, 1.83 mmol) was stirred in 20% TFA in CH2Cl2 at room temperature for 3 hours. This was concentrated and the residue was partitioned between H2O and EtOAc. The organic layer was dried and concentrated. The residue was triturated with CH2Cl2 to yield [4-(3-cyano-1-ethyl-6-methoxy-1H-indol-2-yl)-phenoxy]-acetic acid (634 mg, 99%) as a white solid.
