A solution of isopropylmagnesium chloride (2M, 0.4 mL) in THF was added dropwise to a stirred solution of 4-methyl-3-(1-oxo-1,2-dihydro-isoquinolin-6-yl)-benzoic acid, methyl ester (Intermediate 3) (76 mg) and cyclopropylamine (0.15 mL) in THF (2 mL). The mixture was stirred for 10 min., quenched with sat. aqueous NH4Cl and extracted into ethyl acetate. The organic phase was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated in vacuo and the residue was purified by HPLC to give the title compound as a solid (40 mg).
