Procedure
3-Quinolinecarbaldehyde (Aldrich) (1.04 g, 6.64 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous ethanol (20 mL), NaBH4 (0.250 g, 3.95 mmol) was then added in small portions over 10 min and the resulting solution allowed to stir for a further 30 min. Water (20 mL) was then added and the resulting solution extracted with ethyl acetate (2×30 mL). The combined organics were dried (MgSO4), filtered and the solvent removed under reduced pressure to give the sub-title compound.
