The crude 4-[3-(Pyridin-4-ylmethoxy)-pyridin-2-yl]piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (˜500 mg) was dissolved in 10 mL of 30% trifluoroacetic acid in dichloromethane. The reaction mixture was stirred for 3 hr and then the solvent was removed under vacuum. The impure material was used without purification.
