To a solution of ethyl 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-4-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline-5-carboxylate (150 mg, 0.38 mmol) and cesium carbonate (268 mg, 0.76 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was added iodomethane (0.2 mL, 2.28 mmol) at 0° C. under N2. The reaction mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 4 h and then at room temperature overnight. The resulting solution was added 50 mL of water, and then extracted with ethyl acetate (100 mL×3). The extracts were concentrated to give the crude product as a yellow solid (145 mg, yield 90%), which was used in the next step without further purification. LC-MS (ESI) m/z: 408 (M+1)+.
