A mixture of 0.3 gram (0.0008 mole) of tert-butyl 2-(4-(3,3-dichloroprop-2-enyloxy)-2,6-dichlorophenoxy)acetate in 3.0 mL of methylene chloride was stirred and cooled to 0° C. Trifluoroacetic acid (3.0 mL, 0.04 mole) was added and the reaction mixture was allowed to warm to ambient temperature where it stirred for two hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure leaving a residue. The residue was dissolved in methylene chloride and the solution concentrated under reduced pressure and the resulting residue was dissolved in methylene chloride again. The solution was concentrated under reduced pressure to yield a quantitative amount of the subject compound as a white powder.
