A mixture of 3-chloro-2-fluoro-benzoaldehyde (Oakwood, 97%) (1.59 g, 10.0 mmol) and methyl amine (2.0 M in THF, Aldrich, 7.5 mL, 15.0 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (20 mL) was stirred at rt overnight. The reaction mixture was concentrated and the residue was dried under reduced pressure to afford [[1-(3-chloro-2-fluoro-phenyl)-meth-(E)-ylidene]-methyl-amine (1.72 g, 100%) as colorless oil which was used in the next step without further purification.
