To a solution of (aminomethyl)trimethylsilane (Fluka) (1.03 g, 10 mmol) in dichloromethane (20 mL) was added 3,3-dimethyl-butyraldehyde (Aldrich) (1.0 g, 10 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. Water was added. The organic layer was separated, washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated to give [3,3-dimethyl-but-(E)-ylidene]-trimethylsilanylmethyl-amine as a colorless oil (1.8 g, 97%).
