In a suspension of 1.00 g of 4-[5-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)-5-trifluoromethyl-4,5-dihydroisoxazole-3-yl]benzoic acid in 10 ml of benzene, 0.44 g of thionyl chloride and a catalytic amount (2 to 3 drops) of N,N-dimethylformamide were added, and stirred under reflux with heat for 2.5 hours. After the completion of the reaction, the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain 1.81 g of crude 4-[5-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)-5-trifluoromethyl-4,5-dihydroisoxazole-3-yl]benzoic acid chloride as pale yellow oily substance.
