Procedure
A flask was charged with ethyl 2-(2-(3-benzoylthioureido)-5-bromopyridin-4-yl)acetate (2.940 g, 6.962 mmol) and ethanol (100 mL), and potassium carbonate (4.811 g, 34.81 mmol) was added. The mixture was heated at 70° C. for 2 hours, then filtered hot. The filter cake was washed with a small amount of ethanol, and the filtrate was concentrated to provide the desired product (2.205 g, 99.54%) as a yellow solid.
