mCPBA (7.3 g, 30 mmol) was added into a solution of ethyl 5H-pyrrolo[3,4-b]pyridine-6(7H)-carboxylate (5 g, 26 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (200 mL) and stirred for 2 hours. The reaction was poured into water and extracted with CH2Cl2. The organic layer was washed with aqueous sodium bisulfate, NaHCO3 and brine, dried with Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated to afford the title compound (4 g, 74% yield) as a white solid.
