Procedure
A mixture of 4-chloro-6-methylsulfanyl-pyrimidine 34 (0.54 g, 3.36 mmol) and 57% hydriodic acid solution (2.50 mL, 18.95 mmol) in DCM (3 mL) is stirred at room temperature. After 5 h, the solid is collected by filtration and washed with DCM. The cake is dissolved in water (10 mL) and basified with saturated NaHCO3 solution to pH=8. The aqueous layer is extracted with DCM (2×50 mL). The combined organic extracts are washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated to afford the desired product 4-iodo-6-methylsulfanyl-pyrimidine 35.
