To a solution of 3-[(2-hydroxyethoxy)methyl]benzonitrile (example 28vi) (6.00 g) and diisopropylethylamine (11.8 ml) in dichloromethane (100 ml) at 0° C. was added methanesulphonyl chloride (3.14 ml) dropwise and the mixture allowed to stir for 2 h. The resultant mixture was partitioned between dichloromethane and saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate. The organic phase was dried (MgSO4) and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (8.5 g). LCMS RT=2.58 min.
