Procedure
A solution of 2-(methoxy)-6-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-(phenyl)pyridine-3-carbonyl chloride (0.08 mmol) from Step B in methylene chloride (1 mL) was added to a solution-of 1-aminopiperidine (containing a few percent of piperidine as an impurity) (0.017 mL, 0.16 mmol) and TEA (0.022 mL, 0.16 mmol) in methylene chloride (0.5 mL). The reaction was stirred at rt for 20 h and was then diluted with brine and extracted twice with methylene chloride. The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to give a mixture of the crude products. These were separated by preparative TLC (5% methanol in methylene chloride) to give N-(piperidin-1-yl)-2-(methoxy)-6-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-(phenyl)pyridine-3-carboxamide as the lower eluting product. HPLC/MS: 422 (M+1); Rt=3.8 min;
