2-(Pentadeca-8,14-diynyloxy)tetrahydro-2H-pyran (5 g, 16.45 mmol) was cleaved using p-toluenesulphonic acid (60 mg) in MeOH (100 mL) as described above and the product was purified by SiO2 column chromatography using 15% EtOAc/hexanes as eluent to give pentadeca-8,14-diyn-1-ol (3.26 g, 90%) as a colorless oil. TLC: 30% EtOAc/hexanes, Rf≈0.35; 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 3.63 (t, 2H, J=5.5 Hz), 2.10-2.18 (m, 6H), 1.93 (t, 1H, J=2.6 Hz), 1.24-1.62 (m, 14 H).
