A mixture of 7-benzyl-4-hydroxy-8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-[2,7]naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (40 mg, 0.13 mmol) and methylamine (0.65 mL, 1.3 mmol, 2 M in THF) in 2 mL of EtOH was heated in a sealed tube at 80° C. for 4 h. After cooling to r.t., acetic acid (0.3 mL) and water (3 mL) were added. The resulting suspension was filtered and the solid isolated was washed with water and dried under high vacuum to afford 29 mg of the title compound. MS: (+) m/z 309.97 (M+1).
