Procedure

A mixture of 7-benzyl-4-hydroxy-8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-[2,7]naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (35 mg, 0.11 mmol) and n-propylamine (0.1 mL, 1.1 mmol) in 2 mL of EtOH was heated in a sealed tube at 80° C. for 4 h. After cooling to r.t., acetic acid (0.1 mL) and water (3 mL) were added. The mixture was extracted several times with EtOAc. The combined organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated. The crude product was chromatographed (5-35% EtOAc/hexanes) to give 19 mg of the title compound. MS: (+) m/z 338.02 (M+1).
