A mixture of 1-benzyl-8-cyano-5-hydroxy-2-oxo-3-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (35 mg, 0.085 mmol) and methylamine (1 mL, 2M in THF) in 2 mL of EtOH was heated in a sealed tube at 80° C. for 4 h. After cooling to r.t., 3 mL of water was added. The resulting suspension was filtered, and the crude solid was purified by silica gel chromatography (0-20% EtOAc/CH2Cl2+1% AcOH) to give 13 mg of the title compound as a white solid. MS: (+) m/z 411.01 (M+1).
