A mixture of 1-benzyl-5-hydroxy-2-oxo-3-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-[1,7]naphthyridine-6-carboxylic acid methyl ester (15 mg, 0.039 mmol) and methylamine (1 mL, 2 M in THF) in EtOH (2 mL) was heated in a sealed tube at 80° C. for 16 h. Solvent was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was chromatographed (0-5% MeOH/CH2Cl2) to give 4.9 mg of the title compound as a pale yellow solid. MS: (+) m/z 386.21 (M+1).
