To a solution of (2R)-1,2,4,5-tetrafluoro-3-(2-(methylsulfonyl)propyl)benzene (2.3 g, 8.03 mmol) in anhydrous DMF (10 mL) was added sodium azide (1.045 g, 16.07 mmol) and the solution was heated to 80° C. and stirred for 2 h. Then, the temperature was cooled to rt and 20 mL of water was added, extracted with EtOAc/hexane (1/1 v/v), dried over anhydrous MgSO4 and evaporated to give crude oil, which was passed through silica gel pad and evaporated under reduced pressure to give the product. This was used as starting material for next reduction without more purification.
