To a mixture of 2,6-dichlorobenzylzinc chloride (7.95 mL; 0.50 mol/l in THF; 3.97 mmol) and tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (83.48 mg; 0.07 mmol) in THF (25 mL) was added 4-benzyl-6-(4-bromo-phenyl)-morpholine (1.20 g; 3.61 mmol). The resulting mixture was stirred at RT for 2 hours, and subsequently heated under reflux, for 2 h. After cooling to RT the mixture was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was partitioned between 5% aqueous NaHCO3 and EtOAc. The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (SiO2, Et2O:hexanes 1:1) to afford 4-benzyl-2-[4-(2,6-dichloro-benzyl)-phenyl]-morpholine (1.40 g).
