Tert-butyl 1-(morpholine-4-carbonyl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)-6,8-dihydro-5H-imidazo[1,5-a]pyrazine-7-carboxylate 20b (470 mg, 1.27 mmol) was dissolved in 20 mL of a 2 M solution of hydrogen chloride in 1,4-dioxane. After stirring for 12 hours, the reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain crude morpholino-[3-(trifluoromethyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroimidazo[1,5-a]pyrazin-1-yl]methanone hydrochloride 20c (300 mg) as a light yellow oil. The product was used directly in the next reaction without purification.
