To a solution of 2-bromo-N-(2-chloro-5-cyano-3-nitrophenyl)acetamide (30 mg, 0.094 mmol) in DCM (2 mL) was added a solution of 2-aminoethanol (5.75 mg, 0.094 mmol) in THF (2 mL) then CESIUM CARBONATE (30.7 mg, 0.094 mmol) was added. After stirring at room temperature for 1.5 h, LC-MS indicated completion. After concentration purification via flash chromatography (0-100% EtOAc in Hexane, 12 g) gave N-(2-chloro-5-cyano-3-nitrophenyl)-2-((2-hydroxyethyl)amino)acetamide as a yellow solid (15 mg).
