To a solution of ethyl 3-(1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-6-yl)-3-oxopropanoate (246 mg, 1.5eq) in n-BuOH (5 ml) was added TsOH (10 mg, 0.1eq) and methyl 5-amino-1H-1,2,4-triazole-3-carboxylate (100 mg, 1.0 eq), and the reaction mixture was stirred for 20 h at 130° C. The solids were collected by filtration and washed with methanol (10 ml) to afford methyl 5-(1H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-6-yl)-7-oxo-4,7-dihydro-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-α]pyrimidine-2-carboxylate (80 mg, 60%).
