N-(2,2-Dimethoxyethyl)biotinamide (9, 280 mg, 850 μmol) was dissolved in MeOH (2 mL) and conc. HCl (0.5 mL) was added to the solution, which was allowed to stir for 1 h at 25° C. The reaction mixture was evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure to yield the aldehyde, the total amount of which was used without further purification in the preparation of 10.
