A microwave vial was charged with 3,4-bis(benzyloxy)-6-chloropyridazine (Intermediate 1) (5 g, 15.30 mmol), (E)-4-(trifluoromethyl)styrylboronic acid (4.96 g, 22.95 mmol), potassium carbonate (7.40 g, 53.6 mmol) and tetrakis(triphenyl phosphine)palladium(0) (0.530 g, 0.459 mmol). The reaction was evacuated and purged with nitrogen before dioxane (3.40 ml) was added and the whole was heated under vacuum. Water (1.7 ml) was then added and the reaction mixture heated at 120° C. under microwave irradiation for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and washed with water and then brine and the combined organics were dried (MgSO4) and concentrated in vacuo to give the desired compound as an orange solid (5.6 g, 79%).
