A solution of 5-cyclopropyl-6-(4-fluoro-benzyl)-pyridine-2-carbonitrile (0.08 g, 0.3 mmol) and NaOH (0.05 g, 1.2 mmol) in H2O (10 mL) was stirred for 2 hours at 90° C. The pH was adjusted to 3 with 1 M HCl. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×10 mL), dried over Na2SO4, concentrated under reduced pressure and purified by column chromatography to give the title compound (0.06 g, 70%) as yellow solid; MS (EI): m/e=272.1 [M+H]+.
