Trifluoroacetic acid (7 mL) was added to a solution of methyl cis-(3aRS,9bRS)-7-[bis-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino]-1,3a,4,9b-tetrahydro-2H-furo[2,3-c]chromene-6-carboxylate (Intermediate 2, 0.66 g) in DCM (15 mL) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The mixture was evaporated to dryness and the residue was treated with aqueous sodium bicarbonate and extracted with DCM, dried (MgSO4) and filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness to give methyl cis-(3aRS,9bRS)-7-amino-1,3a,4,9b-tetrahydro-2H-furo[2,3-c]chromene-6-carboxylate (0.255 g) as a gum.
