Procedure

1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine (89 mg) and N-chlorosuccinimide (220 mg) were combined in CH2Cl2 (4 mL) and heated at 45° C. for 16 hr, then cooled to room temperature. The resultant mixture was purified by flash chromatography (silica gel, 50% hexane/ethyl acetate) to afford 3-chloro-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine.
