Procedure
A solution of 4-(2-fluoro-4-methoxyphenyl)-1-(9-methyl-2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-pyrido[3,4-b]indol-7-yl)pyridin-2(1H)-one (80 mg, 0.20 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (2.6 mL) was treated with anhydrous 1.0 M HCl in diethyl ether (0.22 mL, 0.22 mmol). The reaction was stirred at ambient temperature for 1 h, and then the solids were collected by filtration and dried to yield the title compound (68 mg, 77%) as a yellow solid: mp 290-292° C.; 1H NMR (500 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 9.54 (s, 2H), 7.71 (d, J=7.2 Hz, 1H), 7.62-7.58 (m, 3H), 7.10 (dd, J=8.3, 1.8 Hz, 1H), 7.01 (dd, J=13.2, 2.4 Hz, 1H), 6.94 (dd, J=8.6, 2.3 Hz, 1H), 6.62 (s, 1H), 6.53-6.52 (m, 1H), 4.48 (s, 2H), 3.95 (s, 3H), 3.69 (s, 3H), 3.45-3.44 (m, 2H), 3.00-2.97 (m, 2H); ESI MS m/z 404 [M+H]+; HPLC (Method A)>99% (AUC), tR=14.6 min.
