Sodium ethoxide (197 mg, 2.9 mmol) was added to a solution of 6-(trifluoromethyl)picolinonitrile (250 mg, 1.45 mmol) in ethanol (10 mL) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred for 2 h. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the resulting residue was dissolved in dichloromethane, washed with water, dried over sodium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the title compound (291 mg) which was used without further purification.
