The mixture of (S)-2-tert-butoxy-2-(5-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-hydrazinyl-7-methylquinolin-6-yl)ethanol and triethyl orthoformate (0.5 mL) in butanol (5 mL) was heated at 100° C. for 12 hours. The solution was diluted with ethyl acetate, and was washed with 1.0 N sodium hydroxide solution and brine, and dried with sodium sulfate. Concentration and purification by flash column chromatography (hexanes/EtOAc) gave (S)-2-tert-butoxy-2-(6-(4-chlorophenyl)-8-methyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]quinolin-7-yl)ethanol (3.3 mg). LCMS-ESI+ (m/z): [M+H]+ calcd for C23H25ClN3O2: 410.2. Found: 410.2.
