Reaction Steps

1.0 g of dihydro-6-phosphono-1-pyrindine-6-carboxylic acid hydrochloride (Example 31) in 50 ml of H2O with 0.5 g of PtO2 is hydrogenated on a Parr apparatus at 40 PSI and 50° for 3 days. The catalyst is filtered off, and the filtrate is taken to dryness under vacuum. The resulting solid is taken up in the minimum amount of water, and precipitated by slow addition of ethanol to give octahydro-6-phosphono-1-pyrindine-6-carboxylic acid.
