Reaction Steps

3.3 g of 5-bromoisatin, 0.8 g of hydroxylamine hydrochloride and 1.6 g of sodium acetate are held at reflux in 50 ml of water for 1.5 hrs. The yellow crystals are filtered off and dried. 2.11 g of 5-bromoisatin oxime are isolated. Yield: 83%. M.p.=215° (decomposition).
